When I was studying for the specialty board exam, I watched a lot of Korean makeup tutorials during my break time. Pony and Lamuqe are my faves (if you may ask) and they’ve been using a lot of brown eyeliners to achieve that fresh light look. So I asked my sister to buy me a drugstore brown liquid eyeliner–not pencil, not gel, but liquid. Surprisingly, she had a hard time looking for a brown liquid eyeliner but managed to bring me a Revlon Colorstay Skinny Liquid Liner in Mahogany Flame.
The Revlon Colorstay Skinny Liquid Liner is a metallic bronze/brown liner that comes in a very fine brush tip that would be perfect for creating cat-eyes. It’s quick drying and creates a solid finish. A single swipe is enough to do the trick. According to Revlon, it’s a ‘long lasting color stay formula won’t smudge, smear or fade for all day wear’, however it does smugde, especially the glitter/metallic part.
Since Koreans are fond of brown liners, why not try a Korean brand? I got Back Gel BT Supreme Matte Liner in Brown from TONYMOLY. This liner has a matte finish formula and is more quick drying than the Revlon. You have to shake it 2-3 times before using to get most out of the contents. Upon applying the Matte Liner, I’ve noticed that it bleeds through the skin. It also takes 2 (or 3) applications to make that solid opaque line. But this liner is really long-lasting and very waterproof. It doesn’t smudge nor does it fade once the liner dries up. I also had a hard time erasing it using my regular makeup remover.
Final thoughts: Both are good and affordable liners but personally I prefer the Revlon over the TonyMoly, because of how opaque and solid the product is. But I think this shiny liner is more suited for a soft glam makeup perfect for the evening than for a natural Korean-inspired look (and that’s why we have the matte finish lol).
So yes, I’m still looking for my HG liquid brown liner. Do you guys have any suggestions? 🙂
