If you’re a highlight addict then you’d definitely be familiar with this highlighter. The Balm Mary-Lou Manizer Luminizer is considered as a cult favorite. Mary-Lou is one of the Luminizer sisters in The Balm Highlighter Collection: Mary-Lou is champagne, Cindy-Lou is rose-gold and Betty-Lou is bronze. Recently, The Balm added a new sister named Bonnie-Lou Manizer, a warm gold highligher/shimmer. You can buy the trio sisters (Mary-Lou, Cindy-Lou and Betty-Lou) as a set, but you can also get them individually.
Product information: Mary-Lou Manizer is a highlighter, shadow and shimmer. It’s oil-free, talc-free, paraben-free, cruelty-free and non comedogenic. It contains 9.06 gms of product.
Packaging: This product has The Balm’s signature cute quirky design with nice plastic compact containing a huge mirror, which I always bring whenever I travel. But be careful, it looks like the plastic packaging won’t survive a fatal fall.
Pigment/ Texture: This highlighter has a smooth, silky, buttery texture. The powder is fine milled with no chunks of glitter. It’s very pigmented, with no fallouts when applied to your face. A little swipe of the product can provide this pretty luminous sheen.
Staying Power: It has a decent staying power as compared to Sleek Highlighters. It definitely won’t last 12-24hrs without any touchups. But around 6-8 hours you could still see some traces of highlight.
Price: What I love about this product is the price. Other good highlighters like Becca and Hourglass are very expensive, while this luminizer costs around PHP 1,025-1,237 (and the Luminzer sisters palette costs PHP 1,395).
Availability: In the Philippines, you can buy this in any Beauty Bar stores or you can order this online in Sephora.ph.
Final thoughts: If you want a really good highlighter but don’t want to splurge, then The Balm Mary-Lou Manizer is definitely for you. The price and the texture won me over however I think this shade is too light for me. It provides the honey-due glow as promised, but somehow this highlighter dissolves in my skin. Don’t get me wrong, this highlighter is great but the shade is not right for me. Maybe I should try the darker shade Bonnie-Lou Manizer. 🙂
