Holy Grail Cleansing Oil? DHC Deep Cleansing Oil Review

I am one of those people who used to believe that cleansing oils are not for oily people. I love micellar water too much that I never thought I’d be using other products to remove dirt and makeup until I have to remove most stubborn mascara ever. So I googled the best cleansing oil and based on several lists on the internet, I have encountered the Japanese brand DHC several times. An online store even pointed out that it’s the Holy Grail of cleansing oils. So maybe this is really something, let’s see…

DHC Deep Cleansing Oil

Product Description: An olive oil–based facial cleanser that dissolves makeup thoroughly with zero residue. Its nutritive formula effortlessly breaks down stubborn, waterproof mascara and eyeliner and emulsifies into a cleansing milk when you rinse. Great for removing excess oil and sunscreen, it’s a daily must-have even if you don’t wear makeup. Your skin will feel soothed, refreshed, and balanced. One try is all you need to see why millions of women swear by it.

Key Ingredients:

  • Olive oil: rich in antioxidants, it helps fight damage caused by free radicals without clogging pores.
  • Rosemary leaf oil: extracted from the leaves of the plant, it contains invigorating properties and imparts a refreshing fragrance.

Packaging: It’s one of the most minimalist skincare packagings I’ve seen: clear, transparent bottle with a white pump and a plain label. If your fond of fancy packaging, you may find this a little boring.

Texture: This cleansing oil looks like cooking oil. The consistency is rather thick and heavy that’s why I use 1 to  1 and 1/2 full pump of this oil so I can spread and massage this on my entire face. If you’re not used to thick oil you probably won’t like this stuff.

Performance: In terms of removing makeup, this cleansing oil performs well. Waterproof eyeliner, liquid lipstick, mascara…gone with this product. It doesn’t remove makeup in an instant so it’s not the best but it gets the job done. Also, it doesn’t leave any oily residue and doesn’t strip off moisture from my face after rinsing the product. And so far, I never experienced any breakouts during the entire period I’ve been using this cleanser.

Is it just me or is this product really relaxing to use? It has this calming effect when I massage this on my face, that’s why I always look forward to this step on my skincare routine.

Price/ Availability: The price of the 200ml bottle is PHP 1,500 while the 70ml bottle is around PHP 750. If you’re from the Philippines, this cleansing oil can be bought online in BeautyMNL, however, it’s always out of stock. Fortunately, several online stores in Shopee PH sell this product at a cheaper price (please beware of fake products). If you’re travelling to Japan I suggest for you to stock up on these cleansers because it’s cheaper if you buy it there.

Final Thoughts: I am proud to tell you guys that this product made me a convert of cleansing oils. The packaging is no fuss but the product really delivers; it removes the toughest makeup and doesn’t dry out skin. Now I know why this is a cult classic!

Rating: 9.0 (Yes, Holy Grail status!)
