My general goal for this summer is to be as minimalist as possible in terms of makeup. I want a more natural look for this season so I decided to ditch my mid to high coverage foundations in exchange of lighter ones to achieve a soft dewy look, and I think that cushion foundations might be the right products to achieve that. But summer also means sun, heat, sweat and (sea)water, so it would be quite a challenge to maintain that fresh subtle look. Good thing The Face Shop released their latest cushion: Mineral Finish Waterproof Cushion. So let’s put it to the test.
Product Description: Reduces the appearance of wrinkles, Brightens skin tone, Filters and screens harmful UVA/UVB rays•This cushion with a skin-coating polymer produces an excellent second-skin finish, preventing your makeup from budging-even in water! (Waterproof tested by Ellead Skin & Bio Research)
•The cushion with ultra-smooth powder effectively absorbs excess oil to reduce unwanted shine and covers up uneven skin texture, leaving skin looking smooth and radiant.
•The cushion is formulated with aloe extract, chamomile, lavender and rose essential oil to soothe skin damaged by external elements.
Ingredients: According to CosDNA, the only alarming ingredient of this foundation is denatured alcohol. This also contains Titanium Dioxide, Phenylbenzimidazole Sulfonic Acid, Ethylhexyl methoxycinnamate and etc for UV protection. It’s also paraben-free and sulfate-free.
Packaging: This is probably one of the prettiest cushions I ever laid eyes to. Generally, the entire The Face Shop Mineral Finish cushion collection has a sophisticated and luxurious feel and the dark blue and gold accents to this plastic packaging have won me over 100%. (I’m a sucker for blue packaging).
FINISH: The finish is soft, smooth and dewy; so if you are looking for a mattifying foundation I don’t think this one is right for you. This product is probably the most lightweight foundation I have ever used. It feels so light and comfortable that I could go hours and forget I’m wearing foundation.
COVERAGE: The coverage for this foundation is light to medium. But I prefer to apply this as thin as possible, applying only a layer of this foundation (approx 1-2 pumps). I got the shade in V203, which is a bit lighter than my current skin tone because I got a little tan from my previous beach trip. Based on my observation this cushion foundation is not really good in building layers, it tends to be cakey when applied more than two layers. Also, given that this is not mattifying, don’t expect that this will keep your skin oil free.
LONGEVITY: Aside from being lightweight, what I love about this foundation is that it lasts for hours! Even having applied only a layer or two, I noticed that the foundation stayed on my face the entire day. Another feature of this is that it is waterproof and sweatproof. I can attest to that since it’s so hot and humid here in the Philippines that I could not avoid getting sweaty even on my face, and yes, my foundation is still there.
Price/ Availability: For a K-Beauty cushion I could say that the price is relatively mid-range. I bought this from The Face Shop store for ₱1,195.00 and because they were having a sale I got a free cushion refill worth ₱795.00. It’s really a steal!
The usual problem with cushions is that it has a few shades to choose from, so it was hard to find perfect shade suitable for my skin tone, especially that I got a little tan.
Final Thoughts: I didn’t expect that I’d like this foundation but because this is very lightweight and comfortable plus the fact that it lasts all day, I must say that I am really impressed with this cushion. Also, it’s waterproof and sweat-proof, so this is really perfect for the summer.
